  • I think that GitHub is made with sinatra, not rails.
  • Hi Kirk, there's quote from Chris on the technology used:

GitHub is mostly implemented in Rails. The post-commit integration mini-apps we're working on are all written in Merb, we use the Python Pygments for syntax highlighting, and we use Ara T. Howard's Bj plus some Ruby scripts for our queueing system. And, of course, we use the Ruby Grit library to interface with Git.
  • Shouldn't Basecamp be on this list?

    Micky
  • Tom
Thanks for adding Teenormous.com to your list. We are honored to be in such great company!
  • Hey!
You missed the website of the UK's largest online florist - Arena Flowers - pure unadulterated Ruby!

  • Barren Wuffet
Is Last.fm really a Rails web site?

Last time I checked they where hiring PHP coders. Also, if one look at the HTML output I don't see any evidence for a Rails back-end.

But, I hope I'm wrong. :) I love working with Ruby on Rails sooo much. I really hope it will be industry standard over spaghetti-PHP soon!
  • Stuart
Thanks for the comment Barren, we'll definitely check it out. I'm sure they run off a C++ Backend but the URL structure itself screams Rails.

Can anyone confirm so we can update the list?
  • URLs like this one would suggest php.

    http://www.last.fm/delivery.php?id=3704
  • MicroPlace is a microfinance site with the mission of helping alleviate poverty. It belongs to eBay and it's 100% rails.
  • Just wanted to mention Gusto.com is an online travel site - with reviews and other ways to share your travel experiences - is built using Ruby on Rails.
  • Woices also proudly runs on RoR :D

Woices is a free internet service that allows people to create, share and consume echoes, audio records that are linked to a very specific geographical location or real-world object.
  • Stuart
Thanks for the feedback guys, updated Linkedin with Highrise :)
  • What's this based on? I'm fairly positive Last.fm is PHP. This list would be more reliable if it included a reference section; cite your sources.
  • http://rails100.pbwiki.com/ has a list of the top 100 ruby sites by traffic. Not completely accurate because sites have to add themselves to be counted, but it's a good start.
  • BuchGesichter is a German book community that runs on RoR.
  • http://sensei.zenunit.com/ is a Rails site developed to help people build Rails sites through videos - has some other videos on there, too...
  • This list is great! Just wanted to let you know that HitFix.com is built using Ruby on Rails.... we love Rails
  • Ali
Also Balatarin.com, the most visited site in Persian community which played and still plays a key role for anti regime protest in Iran after election.
  • merda_schifosa
There's something like that about python sites?
  • Chris
  • ratnamraju
